It’s been a while since we last saw one of Edgar Mkrtchyan’s Nokia concepts, but he’s back, this time with an 8 inch Lumia phablet. The device is actually dating back several months, but it was only recently finished by the designer.

Concept Nokia Lumia Phablet 8 inch 1

It runs Windows 8.1 and it packs a special keyboard, that’s optimized to be used with both hands. Its screen measures 8 inches in diagonal and the device comes with a fingerprint scanner and a stylus with various types of pressure. The Nokia Lumia Phablet uses a rear polycarbonate shell and it’s available in a variety of vivid colors, like cyan, yellow, red or black.

The rest of the case is all aluminum and without color changes. This Nokia phablet incorporates a 13 megapixel Pureview camera with dual LED flash and upfront there’s a 3 MP shooter. The screen is an 8 incher with Full HD resolution, a curved design and Gorilla Glass protection. Inside the device we find a 6000 mAh battery, good enough for two days of use.

There’s a Tegra 5 or Snapdragon 800 CPU inside and 64 or 128 GB of storage. There will be another post about this model, with a video and more design insights!

Given the large Nokia user franchise around the globe I would hope, and want, Nokia to come up with some phablet models that i) have higher built quality, specs and give premium feel at hand; ii) have excellent basic features for communication, entertainment and productivity; iii) have a higher power endurance; iv) are packaged with good accessories particularly including carrying cases, docking and connectivity options; and v) are price-wise competitive with others in the market. Nokia can take inspiration from its legendary phones like e7 and Lumia 925 as well as learn from HTC One, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Huawei Ascend Mate and others. Most users, and therefore market, do not go by the industries’ competition as “thinnest”, “largest screen” or any other -est qualifications. They go by usability, convenience, and the good feel that it can render for the price paid. Hope Nokia understands this.

I would like to know when this is scheduled for launch. Very serious. I feel it will be a game changer in tablets in India. Lots of executive class people would like to go for this than carry heavy laptops.
