Google already revealed two phones this Spring, but those were the midrange Pixel 3a models. The flagship Pixel 4 is a long way from debut, probably coming in October. Before that happens we get the first legit-looking leak of the device, courtesy of @OnLeaks and Pricebaba. Lo and behold, it has a square camera…
This Pixel 4 design is very similar to the one of the leaked iPhone 11, with the square camera module and all. It’s also very similar to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but maybe more protruding. Steve Hemmerstoffer, the man we know as OnLeaks actually scored the schematics of the Pixel 4, so these aren’t works of fantasy.
It’s all early prototyping at this stage, so it may change. Pixel 4 also has a fingerprint scanner within the screen, as there’s none at the back, plus the front side speakers have been moved to the bottom, flanking the USB Type-C port. The audio jack is gone and the camera protrudes only slightly, perhaps less than expected.
We can’t tell how many camera sensors are at the back, but I’m guessing two or three. The move to a dual camera was long overdue, even though the Pixel 3 was a beast with a single camera, too. Pixel 4 is expected with a Snapdragon 855 processor, at least 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage. We also need a new format for the front camera, maybe a pop up selfie cam or maybe a cutout in the screen (more likely).
Expect changes to this design as time passes.
