Sony Xperia 5 Plus Gets a Design I Can Finally Get Behind

Sony has been hit and miss over the past years with its Xperia designs, but now it seems to be getting back on track. Judging by the latest leak from @OnLeaks and @Slashleaks, they’re playing it safe again with the Sony Xperia 5 Plus.

The device seems to go back to the rectangular/angular design and this time totally expands the screen estate and cuts bezels. We’re dealing with quite the big phone here, with a 6.6 inch OLED flat display, a bit odd, as everyone is curving screens and continuing to curve them on the sides (waterfall displays). We see that the body is boxy again and the fingerprint scanner stays on the side. @OnLeaks even has the measurements for the newcomer: 168.2 x 71.6 x 8.1mm (9.3mm including rear camera bump).

Expected to be unveiled next month at MWC 2020, the smartphone also brings dual front firing speakers and an 8 megapixel selfie camera, which sounds like a compromise in 2020. There’s a triple back camera moved to the side this time and a Time of Flight sensor also makes the cut. The audio jack somehow survived, as has the physical camera key. Somehow you can tell from a mile this is an Xperia and in spite of the rumors we have a 21:9 screen here, it doesn’t quite feel like it, since it’s not an overly long and remote control-like format.

We’ll have to wait and see how this feels in the user’s hand before passing judgement.
