It seems that the Xperia leaks are booming these days and after seeing one Xperia 6 the other day, here’s another one. It comes from a reputed source, Letsgodigital.nl, who created renders of the future flagship, which may well appear at MWC 2020.

Sony will keep its goofy naming pattern even next year, so after the Xperia 1, Xperia 1 and Xperia 10 they will have an Xperia 6. An Xperia 3 is also rumored. The new phones will once again sport the 21:9 aspect ratio and this time Sony has come up with a new solution for the selfie camera. It’s now cut in a punch hole dead center on the device, at the top side. Bezels have been seriously cut from the 2019 generation and somehow the Xperia 6 seems even longer than its predecessor.

Letsgodigital also uncovered a patent that Sony applied for in Japan, for a new interface. It’s about time, since Xperia UI has been feeling date for a while now. The patent was published in the WIPO Global Design Database on December 19th 2019. We see two color renders included, from a smartphone which seems to have no visible selfie camera at first. Of course, seeing how the documents mention no camera, it could appear as a pop up mechanism as well, right?

A third option is a camera hidden under the screen, but that technology is still in the early stages. An updated split screen mode is also expected, from what I’ve heard. With MWC 2020 starting on February 24th, we have a vague idea of when to expect the new device. There’s talk of a Snapdragon 865 CPU inside, 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 5G connectivity. PlayStation Remote Play will be improved and DualShock 4 controller support is also part of the package. I’m also not at all a fan of the new camera interface and feel it should be changed… again.
