It seems that the rumors aren’t true and Sony is not ready for a big change, at least in its midrange portofolio. The flagships may bring the rumored edge to edge 18:9, more curved aspect. However, the Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra seem to follow in the footsteps of the Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra. The edge to edge bezels only apply to the sides, while the top and bottom are kinda big for today’s standards.
Sony has put the fingerprint scanner at the back and made the Xperia L2 look more sexy, closer to an Xperia XA with narrower bezels. I feel that the front panel is now more curved a bit and from what I’ve heard the materials used for the XA2 models will be different from those used for the Xperia L2. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s polycarbonate all the way here.
All models get a physical camera button and the XA2 Ultra is the only one of the bunch getting a dual front camera. I think the curved sides thing is borrowed from the Xperia XZ1 and Sony is trickling down previous flagship design to the midrangers, like Samsung is doing with the Galaxy S/Galaxy A. Still, we need a fresher design…
