We’ve seen a concept phone that includes a Bluetooth headset before, but the “Two Smoking Barrels” design manages to one-up the previous handset by also adding a built-in stylus on the features list. Imagine you’re in dire need of a pen, in order to jot things down, or that you keep losing your Bluetooth headset.

Two Smoking Barrels, designed by Zhongfang Lv comes with both accessories and the idea is so original, that we don’t even need to check out the phone.

The device also supports auto charging for the Bluetooth headset and its design looks like something Nokia would create, although its front keys are not very well defined. From what I can see, the phone’s not a slider, so it might be a touchscreen device with a 3.5 mm and probably a decent camera.

The “What you see is what you get” concept is probably one of the best-looking designs ever, rivalling the iPhone and most popular cameraphones nowadays. It comes with a decent touchscreen and it relies on an original concept, that allows the user to see the exact same thing he’s photographing on the phone’s display.

Instead of jewelry, the handset designed by Pei-Hua Huang uses mineral glass and metal material, but the device is recyclable. It is supposed to be a prepaid phone, that gets disassembled as parts after it ends its life cycle and then those parts get reused.

The “What you see is what you get” name comes from the innovative camera viewfinder, that will make sure you take pictures correctly.

Take a look at the phone’s specs below:

While waiting for E-paper devices we’re content with concept phones and all sorts of contraptions like the Scroll concept you can check out below. This original idea was created by 13 Tech Design at its features are impressive to say the least. Imagine a 10 megapixel camera, a full HD camcorder and Windows Vista/XP under the same portable “roof”…

Add WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity to those features and don’t forget a mighty processor, plus RAM and obscenely huge storage space. Well, those last hardware specs are still a mystery, but we don’t know where they’re going to fit, inside such a tiny device. Also, imagine its price… that’ll buy you some iPhones!

The cellphone was invented with portable means of communication in mind, with a focus on the audio side. Now, as keypads get better and touchscreen becomes a standard, we’ll have to face the fact that some people are more into texting and less into calling. Those chatters will love the “Ultimate Chat Machine” concept, you can see below.

Ultimate Chat Machine Concept Phone - Release the Chatter Inside

Designed by Jin Woo Han for PPWK group & red-lab, this device comes in different shapes and sizes, but they all have something in common: sliding QWERTY keypads and touchscreens. The Ultimate Chat Machine also include rubber coating, in order to increase the grip of the handset, while the key placement is perfect for hours and hours of instant messaging.

Circle Rotary Phone Spins it Old-School

Concept phones are usually more complex as time goes by, but there a few designers who just won’t say “no” to simplicity. And why should they when smaller and lighter sometimes means better? The Circle Phone, for example is a rotary device, without a display, without any other component to be more precise…

Circle Rotary Phone Spins it Old-School

It relies on pure dialling, old-fashioned way, using its analog keys arranged in a circle. The handset also includes call and endcall buttons on the inner circular area of the device and comes with a white stand (or should I say pedestal?) for it to rest when you’re not into trendy calls.

Lazy Thumb Phone Gives Your Laziness a Chance

The designer of this concept, Koo Ho Shin describes it as a “voice activated cellphone” and you should believe him, because the device doesn’t feature number or letter keys. Instead it has only 3 buttons and you’ll rely on tactility in order to communicate while using this phone.

Lazy Thumb Phone Gives Your Laziness a Chance

Lazy Thumb allows 2 types of communication: person to person or person to device. What you see on the phone’s front surface are 3 sliding Polycarbonate plates that embed OLED screens. There’s also an LCD display beneath them showing you text messages, directions or whatever textual feedback you need.

Here’s a diagram below, showing how the panels work: the first one’s used for calling, the second for checking out the missed calls, while the third allows you to check your voice mail.

The concept also applies to other devices, that come in all shapes and sizes, as you can see in the following image:

Rock and Roll Concept Phone for the Guitar Hero in You

It’s the first time I’ve seen a cellphone concept design for rockin’ folks and that can only be good news and good money for the company that decides to take up the product. Check out the visionary design below, pertaining to Mark Edmund Magararu.

Rock and Roll Concept Phone for the Guitar Hero in You

It’s a handset designed with musicians and probably music fans in mind, featuring a guitar-shaped body, multimedia controls and either an 8-shaped display or two separate round screens. Either way, it still rocks the mobile industry and I could imagine Slash owning and smashing such a device on stage.

If you’ve never heard about “communication furniture”, it’s your lucky day as you’re about to become familiar with the concept. The TouchMan phone you can see below can connect to a second device, while you’re at home, showing your list of friends and their moods/emotions on a pretty big screen.

TouchMan Phone Gets Better at Home

Couple this with screensaver functionality, instant messaging and … even an aquarium and you’ve got a nice gadget to toy with, for a day or two. Too bad it’s only a concept, designed by Nils Siegel, but you’ll be glad to find out that it also features a touchscreen and the main gadget can be used as a docking station, in order to charge the phone.

Yes, I know it’s a big, big, offtopic, but hey this is the news of the day for me. Apparently I’ve been missing the piece of info that says that Flickr now allows users to upload videos. Oh yeah, the Edge concept phone… I’ve wrote about it here and you can find out more details by checking out the designer’s website.

Here’s a pair of Flickr videos showing the Edge phone in action:

Ever had one of those friends who never manages to make up his mind about who or she really is? It seems gadgets can be like this too, switching from one look to the other. I’m talking about the Easy Tiles phone, designed by Tzu-Fu Wang. If you’ve ever played with LEGO cubes, you’ll surely love assembling this handset’s shell with the aid of tiles.

You just slide the tiles as you please and create a look that’s fit for your style. Then you get new tiles and combine them with the old ones, creating even cooler shells.
