Huawei Mate 30 Pro leaked with a surprising twist this week, as it popped up with a camera that’s no longer square. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro inaugurated the trend and it’s been taken over by Apple and Google with the iPhone 11 and Pixel 4.

Turns out that the Mate 30 Pro will have a round camera instead of the square one, but it still fits 4 sensors there. It feels like a Lumia throwback and I’m not a big fan of the way the sensors are integrated. The mechanism feels cheap and old. Luckily designer Ben Geskin was on the case and perfected it, by moving the sensors around a bit for more symmetry.

This time we also get a square/periscope zoom camera and there are two versions of the front: notch and cutout in the screen , dead center like the Galaxy Note 10. Not a big fan of the camera, but I also didn’t like the previously leaked rectangular camera. Tough to keep people happy nowadays…

Judging by the camera lens size, the top one is Bokeh/Time of Flight and the two on the sides are the 48 MP main camera and the ultra wide one. The bottom one is the periscope probably 5x optical zoom cam. Fingers crossed that we get the square back…
